We'll be voting on the updated 2026 George Hall PTA bylaws during our April 2026 PTA community meeting. These bylaws have been reviewed and approved by our regional 17th district PTA as well as the California State PTA and follow a statewide template. Bylaws are supposed to be updated/approved approximately every five years.
The main updates compared to the previous version of bylaws from 2019 include:
- Increases annual dues from $11 to $12 due to a $1 increase in National PTA member dues
- Minor updates to the roles that comprise the elected PTA Board:
- "financial reviewer" replaces "auditor"
- "recording secretary" and "corresponding secretary" are simplified to "secretary"
- "historian" is no longer an elected position
- Adds a provision disqualifying individuals convicted of crimes involving misuse of funds or deception in charity operations from holding office
- Adds a provision about individuals counting funds (must be authorized signers, elected/appointed officers, or members, but not the financial reviewer, and not related/cohabitating)
- Adds explicit authorization for teleconference participation at association meetings (with quorum by roll call). The 2019 version only has this for executive board and committee meetings, not association meetings.
- Removes a mid-year audit requirement — reviews are conducted only "at the end of each fiscal year and at the resignation of any financial officer or authorized check signer."
- Decreases the executive board quorum from 8 to 5
- Removes a requirement for an annual report of volunteer hours
